Tuna Hotdish Recipe 030 (Mobile)

A classic comfort food punched up with a bit of color and flavor.

Tuna Casserole, or as we like to call it here in Minnesota, Tuna Hot Dish, is a family favorite in many households. You will find many variations to this classic dish. This is my baked version

BAKED TUNA HOT DISH

Ingredients:

  • 3 Cans Tuna, packed in water and drained
  • 4 Cups Rotini Noodles, cooked
  • 1/2 Cup Red Pepper, diced
  • 1/2 Cup Red Onion, diced
  • 1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 & 1/2 Cups Button Mushrooms, diced
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1 Cup Frozen Peas
  • 1/2 Cup Seasoned Croutons, crushed
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Parmesan Cheese
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

2. Spray a 9″ Two Quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

3. In a large bowl whisk together the Soup and the Milk, set aside.

4. Add the Red Onion, Red Peppers and 1 tablespoon of the Butter to a 10″ frying pan and saute until tender.

5. Next stir in the Tuna, Peas, Red Onion, Red Peppers, Mushrooms, 1/4 Cup of the Parmesan Cheese, and the Pasta into the Soup mixture. Give your Pepper mill a few good turns over all and stir once again.

6. Transfer the Pasta mixture into the prepared baking dish.

7. Cover the baking dish and bake for approximately 20 minutes. You want the Hot Dish to be hot and bubbly.

8. While the Hot Dish is baking, melt the remaining butter in the 10″ pan you used earlier, then stir in the crushed Croutons.

9. Remove the Hot Dish from the oven and sprinkle the Buttered Crouton mixture and the remaining Parmesan Cheese on top of the Hot Dish. Pop the Hot Dish back in the oven, bake uncovered for another 5 minutes.
