Bacon Apple Cheddar Dressing

A great side Dressing Recipe.

Many of you make the same tried and true family favorite Stuffing/Dressing recipe every year. I am the opposite, there are so many ways to make a good Dressing with a wide variety of flavor combinations. Your turkey deserves a new Dressing Recipe to partner with this year! I like to create a new recipe every once in a while and this one got rave reviews.

This recipe is made on the side, you do not stuff it in the bird.  It pairs well with Ham or Pork too, so if you are serving both for the Holidays, try this recipe.

BACON APPLE CHEDDAR DRESSING

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 Stalks Celery, Diced (about 1 & 1/2 Cups)
  • 6 Strips of Maple Bacon
  • 1 Medium Size Apple, Peeled, Cored and diced (I used Braeburn)
  • 1 & 3/4 Cup Chicken Stock
  • 3/4 Cup Apple Cider
  • 1 Small Yellow Onion, diced (about 3/4 cup)
  • 1 & 1/2 Cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Bag Stuffing Croutons (14 oz.)
  • 1 Egg, Beaten
  • 1 Tablespoon Sage

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Cook the Bacon in a frying pan. Remove the Bacon from the pan, place on paper towels to drain and set aside. Reserve 1 tablespoon of the Bacon fat in the pan.

3. Add the Apple, Onion and Celery to the pan with the Bacon fat. Cook until tender. Transfer the Apples and Veggie mixture to a large mixing bowl.

4. Add the Stuffing Croutons, Chicken Stock, Apple Cider, Sage and Egg in the bowl with the cooked Apple and Veggie mixture. Cut the Bacon into bite size pieces and add it into the bowl. Lastly add the Cheese into the bowl and fold all the ingredients together.

5. Butter a 3 quart casserole dish and transfer the Dressing to the casserole dish.

6. Cover the casserole dish and bake the Dressing for 40-55 minutes. All ovens cook differently so check the Dressing at 30 minutes. You want it to be heated all the way through and golden brown on the edges.
